British Antarctic Sledge Dog Memorial Fund

Update: September 2007

by Hwfa Jones

A lot is going on now with the Fund. In brief, the Fund is now over halfway home thanks to worldwide donations. We anticipate commissioning the statue around about Christmastime, 2007 just after the Changi eBay auction. We have also been contacted by a television company who is putting together a proposal to film the 'Story of the Memorial', which is very interesting to us all as so many more people will get to know the story if it is on TV.  I believe they will also want to film the statue going south and its final placement in Antarctica. Graham and I are also considering a grand tour of the United Kingdom with the statue when it is completed. We’ll put it on a trailer and drive ‘round so Fids all over the UK will have a chance to see it before it heads south. We'll probably have to stay in lots of pubs all over the place where we can meet all the Fids in the vicinity!

Still available is the book, The Doggy Men, which was written to help contribute some initial funding for the memorial and can be bought from the treasurer of the fund for a £5 minimum donation. A copy of The Doggy Men is maintained on eBay, again to facilitate international donations. Donations to the fund can be made to: Graham Wright, Treasurer Antarctic Sledge Dog Memorial Fund, 39 Bryn Meadows, Newtown Powys SY16 2DS, Tel: 01686 624077 (wk. 01686611206), Email: gwright@mid-wales.net. Cheques (UK bank only please) should be made out to "The Sledge Dog Memorial Fund". Please include your postal address and name so donors to the fund can be recorded. Paypal can be used with any credit card to: Hwfa@merseymail.com.
